Big, Bold, and Vocal.

Waterfowl & Guineafowl Hunting

Africa’s most thrilling waterfowl and walked-up bird shoot.

Overview: The Roar of Wings Over the Orange River

Dawn breaks cold and clear on the banks of the Orange River. Frost clings to the veld. The sky burns with early light, and then the silence cracks open: the deep honk of geese, the thunder of wings. You’re in the blind, watching V-formations lock in. Heads down. Wings cupped. They commit.

This is Africa’s boldest wingshooting, a mix of explosive waterfowl over decoys and wild guineafowl through the Karoo veld. A hunt defined not by finesse, but by power, presence, and pulse. For those who crave something different, something raw, this is your shoot.

The Birds

Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca)

Bold, vocal, and pugnacious. These aggressive geese come in fast and loud, responding well to decoys set along fields and riverbanks.
Size: 2–4 kg
Flight Style: Low and fast over decoys
Daily Limit: 10 per hunter

Spur-winged Goose (Plectropterus gambensis)

Africa’s largest waterfowl—and one of its most elusive. Wary, sharp-eyed, and powerful, these giants drop like anvils when they commit. You’ll feel the hit in your chest.
Size: Up to 7+ kg, wingspan 1.8–2m
Flush: High, booming, and spectacular
Daily Limit: 5 per hunter

Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris)

For variety, the afternoons bring rugged walked-up guineafowl shoots. You’ll push fields and bushveld with dogs and guides, flushing noisy flocks that dart and dive like feathered missiles.
Daily Limit: 10 per hunter
Style: Walked-up, often with pointer support

All birds are wild. No releases. No supplements. This is real hunting in natural habitat.

The Landscape

The Northern Cape’s Orange River corridor cuts through dry Karoo veld, creating a lifeline for geese and a backdrop of haunting, stark beauty. Farms stretch across ancient landscapes, fields fed by irrigation, riverbanks thick with reeds, cover strips lined with guineafowl sign.

This is South Africa’s most unique waterfowl zone, offering large-scale hunts without fuss. You’ll shoot from pivot irrigation wheels, mobile blinds, and natural hides, all set in advance by seasoned guides.
